PodCamp Nano
Have you heard about PodCamp Nano? Neither had I until the ride home yesterday, staring at my iPod while stuck in traffic. That 60 GB 5G iPod sure is nice, but sometimes you want something smaller and lighter for running or whatever.
I think the same is true for conferences, so I’m tossing an idea out here. PodCamp Nano, with the 2-2-2 rule.
+ 2 hours
+ 2 sessions
+ 2 drinks
and you’re done. Essentially a meetup, but with defined sessions like a full-size PodCamp. Because it’s a small and light affair, you won’t need much in the way of sponsorships beyond a place to gather and maybe someone to buy drinks.
Same rules apply as PodCamp - no mega-commercial pitches, no charge to attend, everything licensed under Creative Commons.
PodCamp Nano. We’ll see how that works out. (yes, I just bought PodCampNano.com and PodCampNano.org)

Hmmm…..”pod” and “nano” in the same sentence…..is that allowed? *laugh*
I love the idea.
Now I’m thirsty!

Very interesting concept. Sounds like something that could really be a big hit, and you could even do it during the week after a regular job. Great idea, and good thinking scooping up the domains already.

Julien - if you’re going to be at the first one, shouldn’t we do it in Montreal?
Chris - you should register PodCampMini too. I’m all for fast and furious meetups.

Is the 2 drinks a minimum?
Ok, that makes at least 4 Boston people on this thread, we may have a quorum– where’s Brogan?

Brogan’s in, Doug. Check out his post on the idea - http://grasshopperfactory.com/cbc/penn-brilliance/

Does it have to be in that order?

[...] I think PodCamps will at once explode and implode. I think people will go with Chris Penn’s idea of hosting PodCamp Nano instead of full blown 300-people events, and those micro events will be just as fruitful if done properly. Boston will probably be a huge one, if we can put together everything we’ve in mind, but overall, I see value in following Ori Brafman and Rod Beckstrom’s view on this. Leaderless organizations, or hub-less organizations will grow dramatically in 2007, all the while delivering value back to a larger alliance. [...]
